A Valentine’s Day Reminder of Our Wild Neighbours
This Valentine’s while welcoming guests for our Glamorous Valentine’s Lunch, we were reminded in the most touching way of how closely we coexist with our wildlife. Our resident warthog, who has become a familiar face around the lodge, had unfortunately gotten his nose entangled in a snare. This incident served as a poignant reminder of just how vulnerable our wildlife companions can be.
Our Beautiful Home in the Crocodile River Reserve
Nestled in the heart of nature, Lethabo Estate proudly calls the beautiful Crocodile River Reserve our home. This pristine wilderness, officially proclaimed as a Nature Reserve in October 2019, spans an impressive 3,500 hectares of diverse landscapes.
The magic of our reserve lies in its varied terrain, which provides a sanctuary for an incredible array of wildlife.
Our guests often enjoy spotting various free-roaming mammals, from the majestic Kudu to the swift Steenbok, and from the elusive Black-backed Jackal to the resourceful Cape Porcupine. Among our special residents are some threatened species, including the charming South African Hedgehog and the playful Cape Clawless Otter – which you might spot from our restaurant deck as it frolics in the river!
Three magnificent rivers weave through our reserve, creating a vibrant ecosystem that supports countless species of flora and fauna. Being just a stone’s throw away from Johannesburg and Tshwane, we offer an accessible escape into nature’s embrace, where you can experience both natural wonders and rich cultural heritage.
